School pencil case

New school year is almost here! My kids ordered for a owl and a puppy pencil case for this year. These pencil cases are very easy to make and materials are available in any craft store. I made a similar pencil case last year and it lasted the whole year of everyday use. It is important to keep in mind that the owner was eight years old. These are one of a kind and it reminds your children when they are in school that you care for them.  I had great fun making the silly pencil cases. These makes me smile whenever I see them.

Owl and Puppy Pencil Case: 

For the owl pencil case you need:

1. Red felt for the wings
2. Dark brown felt for the body
3. White felt for the eyes
4. Dot print felt for the tummy (any print will do, dot print has always been my weakness)
5. Two goggly eyes (usually found in craft stores)
6. One tiny piece of yellow felt for the nose
7. One zipper
Steps:
1. Cut pieces from your felt material according to the shapes shown below. The dark brown felt is for the main owl body. Make sure the two pieces are bigger than a standard pencil.
 2. Attach the two red pieces on the dotted felt fabric. I used a sewing machine. The dotted felt is supposes to be the belly of the owl and the red pieces on both sides are the wings.
 3. Attach the white felt pieces on the dark brown piece. Then glue the eyes on the white felt.
4. Attach the belly part on the dark brown felt.
5. Sew the triangular shape yellow felt piece between the eyes.
6. Sew a zipper on the other dark brown felt piece (this is the back side of the pencil case).
7. Sew both sides of the pencil case together. Now it's ready for the new school year.

For the puppy pencil case you need:

Almost the same materials as the owl pencil case but in different shapes. The puppy pencil case is simpler than the owl. I used only the red and the dotted felt for this one.
1. Red felt for the body and ears
2. Dot print felt
3. Two goggly eyes
4. One tiny piece of back felt for the nose
5. One zipper
6. Niddle and black thread for the mouth.
Steps:
1. You need two pieces of rectangle shape red felt as shown below, make sure the length is bigger than a standard pencil. One of the pieces is for the top of the pencil case and the other one for the bottom. 
 2. Make a small slit on one of the red rectangle piece. This opening is for the zipper. This is going to be the back piece of the pencil case.
 3. Place the zipper on the bottom and sew the zipper and the red felt together.

 4. Attach the ears and the dotted felt on the other rectangle red felt piece.

 5. I made the smile/mouth by doing a chain stitch on the dotted piece in a half circle shape.
6. Attach the black oval shape felt for nose and two eyes (I glued the eyes).
 7. Sew the back piece and the front piece together using a sewing machine. You can get creative and do any animal your heart desire!🙋

Ladybug wings

Making costumes for kids is fun, you can showcase your creative side. But at the same time it can get stressful for the parents. Here I will show you a very simple step by step process to make ladybug wings which you can do within half an hour or so. The only thing you might need is the right colour felt material and some of your time. Think about all the money and the time you will save going to a store and buying a costume which the kid will probably wear just for one day.   You need: 1. Red felt (about half meter) 2. Black felt (quarter meter) 3. Cardboard or hard paper (use cardboard boxes or cereal boxes) 4. Scissors 5. Glue 6. Red thread 7. One needle Steps: 1. Draw one circle on a cardboard or hard paper. You can use a large plate to trace the circle on the cardboard. Cut out the cardboard circle using the scissors.  2. Draw the same shape on the red felt.
